The billionaire Joseph Safra has built a banking empire. His largest holding, Banco Safra, has more than $50 billion in assets.
Last year, the 75-year-old billionaire merged Bank Sarasin, a private bank in Switzerland, with his other European banks, to form Bank J. Safra Sarasin.
Also last year, his family acquired more than a dozen properties in the U.S., primarily in New York City.
Jacob, Safra’s oldest son, is responsible for all international operations outside of Brazil, while his 2 other sons, David and Alberto, manage Banco Safra in Brazil.
