Born on June 2, 1937, the Executive Chairman and majority owner (53.30%) of the international transport company Kuhne + Nahel has an estimated net worth of $10.3 billion.
He joined his grandfather’s company in 1963 and 3 years later he became CEO.
In 2003, he founded what was called Hamburg School of Logistics. Now called Kuehne Logistics University, it is supported by a charitable foundation which was originally formed by Klaus Michael Kuehne and his parents in 1976.
In 2008, the billionaire and a group of investors formed the Albert Ballin KG consortium to bid for 160-year-old Hapag Lloyd, which is one of the world’s leading container ship operators. He now holds a 28.2% stake.
The German businessman also supports the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ) and Technical University in Berlin.
Not to mention, he transformed a 600-year-old castle, Castell Son Claret, into a luxurious hotel, which was opened last year, in May.
