Maria Asuncion Aramburuzabala is a 51-year-old billionaire who inherited her stake in Grupo Modelo, maker of popular beers Corona and Negra Modelo, after the sudden death of her father, in 1995.
Known as Mariasun, together with her mother and sister, she started a firm called Tresalia and began investing in technology, telecommunications, real estate development, land reserves and infrastructure.
The ‘la reina de la cerveza’ (the queen of beer) swapped her equity for cash when Anheuser-Busch InBev completed its $20 billion acquisition of Grupo Modelo.
