5. Idan Ofer – Net worth: $4.3 billion
With a net worth of $4.3 billion, Idan Ofer is the 5th richest man in Israel.
Idan Ofer and his brother, Eyal, are the sons of shipping magnate Sammy Ofer, who was once Israel’s richest man and who died in June 2011. Idan inherited half of his father’s vast art collection, said to be one of the world’s most amazing.
The 59-year-old billionaire is the principal of Guernsey-based Quantum Pacific Group, whose main interests include one of the world’s largest privately owned shipping groups, as well as a controlling stake in Israel Corporation, the largest public holding company on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange.
Idan Ofer is also the principal shareholder of Pacific Drilling, a company which went public on the NYSE in 2012.
Also in 2012, he launched a 50-meter yacht named after Better Place, a Silicon Valley electric car fueling station startup that he chaired.
The billionaire is the main backer of Qoros, a China-based auto manufacturer. The company’s first car, the Qoros 3 Sedan was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March of 2013 and went on sale in China that same year.
