He is also the major shareholder of the Valencia Basket Club, a professional Spanish basketball team.
The company, Mercadona, with 1.470 stores and 74.000 employees, has $26 billion in revenues. Juan Roig owns 55% of Mercadona.
And he’s not alone in this. His daughters, Hortensia, Amparo, Carolina and Juana, all sit on the supervisory board with their father.
Juan Roig has distributed $20 million in what he calls an ‘innovation cluster’ and plans to invest $5 million more.
Also, he funds the 3 largest Valencia running competitions.
