Born and raised in Moscow until the age of nine, Regina came from a musical family, who taught her to play the piano and encouraged her to pursue this instrument even when they moved to America, where she was playing piano in her synagogue.
Until the age of 17 she studied piano with her teacher Sonia Vargas at the Manhattan School of Music, a period when she had interest in other musical genres beside the classical one, even being encouraged to write songs for herself by famous songwriters she meet at that time.
By 2001 after she finished SUNY Purchase Music Conservatory, she released her first album 11:11 which she was selling at the performances in the anti-folk scene in New York and by the year 2004 she signed a record deal with Sire Records.
From here her career started to bloom and the piano player expressed her style with influences from folk, classical music, Jewish, Russian, punk, rock, hip hop and jazz.
With a broad vocal range, Spektor became famous for her unique genre and after touring and making features with Jeff Lynne, David Kahne, Mike Elizondo, and Garret “Jacknife” Lee, she can be considered one of the richest pianists in the world with a net worth of 12 million dollars.
