Looks like headphones are a real money spinner. In 2014, Dre sold his Beats by Dre brand to Apple for an astonishing $3 billion.
He still has a stake in Beats, which are worth around $500m after tax, which means his music makes up the rest of his $810m fortune. Like Ice Cube, Dre was a member of NWA, and was one of the brains behind the double platinum Straight Outta Compton.
His management skills led him to establish Aftermath Entertainment and discover Eminem, Mary J Blige and 50 Cent, amongst others.
