7. Survived various health issues
As if that near death experience was not bad enough, Sean Connery had to go through several health issues since he was young. Could this have anything to do with the fact that he started smoking when he was just nine years old?
One of the issues that hindered him from his career was the condition he and most of his family suffered. It is called the duodenal ulcer, a break in the lining of first intestine. And it cost him his navy career.
Back in 1993, Sean underwent a radiation therapy but it was undisclosed. Until two years after, he finally told the press through an interview with Entertainment Weekly that it was a throat ailment treatment. It was done after he lost his voice while filming Rising Sun. The treatment had to be done to remove benign tumors from his vocal chords.
Then in 2003, Sean had to undergo another surgery. He had cataracts removed from both of his eyes. But this didn’t stop him from doing more work before finally retiring three years after. However, that year, another health issue hit him. Another tumor was found in his kidney. And he underwent a surgery at a New York hospital to remove it.
