4. George Soros (Net Worth: $24.9 billion)

Thomas Peterffy is not the only Hungarian refugee who managed to escape the threats in his own country. George Soros, the founder and chairman of Soros Fund Management, had to go through similar situation during Nazi occupation of his country.

He was only a teenager when he had to pose as Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture employee’s godson. He did that just to stay safe. Then he waited and waited until he managed to escape the country in 1947. That year, he went to London and reunited with his relatives.

George survived the life in one of the world’s most expensive cities by working as a waiter and railway porter. His hard work was paid off as he managed to put himself through London School of Economics where he got a Bachelor degree of Arts/Science.

After working several jobs, George decided to move to New York and work at Wall Street. That is when his fortune through hedge fund began. He made big and smart investments which led him to his $24.9 billion of net worth.
