Slinky
The idea for this invention came from Naval engineer Richard James in 1945 when he dropped a tension spring and watch it slink away on the floor.
He was nervous about the potential of this toy but the first 400 pieces were sold in only 90 minutes, making him realize the real success of his invention.
They also made a Slinky dog by the idea of Helen Malsed who received royalties of $60,000 to $70,000 annually for 17 years on her patent.
In 2000 the Slinky toy was inducted into “The toy hall of fame” and the profit made with this invention is around $250 million.
