6. Australia Open (Tennis): $2.96 million (AUD$3.85 million)
Australia Open 2016 increased its cash prize by 10% from last year’s. A total pool of AUD$44 million (approximately $31.1 million) was up for grab earlier this year.
For both Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles, Australia Open sets equal amount of cash prize of AUD$3.85 million ($2.96 million). Besides the main cash prize, players will be awarded as they advance further on the tournament.
The players who finish on the 1st round will get AUD$34,500 each. The prize goes higher from AUD$60,000 for 2nd round, AUD$97,500 for 3rd round, AUD$200,000 for 4th round, AUD$400,000 for Quarter Final, AUD$800,000 for Semi Final, AUD$1.9 million for Runner Up.
Australia Open also provides cash prize for other numbers. AUD$650,000 was awarded to both Men’s and Women’s Doubles players. And for mixed doubles, the winner took home AUD$150,500.
