10 Reasons Why Traveling to Spain this Summer is a Great Idea

3. San Juan bonfires festival

The San Juan festival starts from the month of May and continues throughout June. There are many events during this festival. Among them are cultural, traditional, social, musical, and sporting events.

The peak of the San Juan festival is the bonfires in June 23rd. This special day starts with parades and street performances centralized at Plaza de Maria Pita.

As the sun starts to go down, you will smell the roasting sardines throughout the entire city. Yum!

And as the night falls, the beaches of Riazor and Orzan are transformed into a bonfire fiesta. Hundreds of bonfires are lit. The ocean reflects the flames as they dance around. That is what Spanish called noite da queima or “night of flames”.
