5. Wimbledon 1933 Poster: Sold for $35,000
In 1933, this poster was displayed all over London’s subway system to give visitors directions to the Wimbledon event venue. If only you ripped one of these original copies then, you would have been £25,000 richer.
The original copy was sold at that price (approximately $35,000) at Christie’s in 2012. What makes it so special is that it was designed by one of the famous printmaker in Britain and Canada, Sybil Andrews.
In 1925, she helped establish The Grosvenor School of Modern Art. Due to World War II, she had to leave her career in art. Then she moved to Canada.
She became one of the Canada’s prestigious artist when she was elected to the Society of Canadian Painters, Etchers, and Engravers. You can see thousands of her work at the Glenbow Museum today.
