3. Fred Perry’s 1936 Trophy: Sold for $44,000
Fred Perry’s second item in our list of expensive tennis memorabilia is his trophy from winning the Men’s Singles title of 1936 Wimbledon. The trophy is called the Renshaw Cup.
Initially, this trophy was awarded to the winner of challenge round between the winner of Men’s Singles title and the former winner. But since the change of the tournament system in 1922, this trophy was given to the winner as an addition to the Wimbledon’s trophy.
Perry won a lot of trophies in his life. Unlike Björn Borg’s on the previous rank of our list, this particular Perry’s auctioned trophy was the real one.
In 2006, Fred Perry’s Renshaw Cup trophy was sold at £31,200 (approximately $44,000) at Christie’s.
