Another Renshaw Cup trophy was sold as a high-end collectible item. This one belonged to Ellsworth Vines. Vines was an American tennis player who was very powerful on court despite his gracious move.
In 1932, he won the most prestigious Men’s Singles Grand Slam title. It put him as the best American tennis player during his era.
Surprisingly, he retired by the age of 28. Then, he turned to golf. He played in PGA tour. He also became one of the best American professional golfers.
In 2013, Vines’s Renshaw Cup was sold at Heritage Auctions for $47,800. It was one of the most important tennis memorabilia. The auction winner must have been thrilled to have it.
