Born in 1949, in New York City, Diana Nyad is not only a long-distance swimmer, but also an author, journalist and motivational speaker, for which she charges from $10.000 to $15.000.
Diana Nyad first gained national recognition in 1975, when she swam 45 km around Manhattan, and in 1979, when she swam 164 km from North Bimini, The Bahamas, to Juno Beach, Florida.
Two years ago, in 2013, she became the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida without the aid of a shark cage. She made it in 27 hours, breaking the world record for both men and women.
Nyad can be seen in Macy Gray’s music video for the song ‘Bang, Bang’ and she also performed in her solo show called ‘ONWARD – The Diana Nyad story’, which premiered in 2014 at the NoHo Arts Centre Theater in Los Angeles.
