Here’s a sneak peek at the Little Red Book Facebook Gives to new Employees
It seems that once you start working at Facebook among other things you receive this little red book that is meant to serve as a guideline for the time you spend with the company.
Ben Barry used to work as a designer for Facebook and his job was to create this booklet for it to be share with new hires.
He recently published on his personal website a series of scans containing some of the content that is contained in the guidebook.
It is filled with tiny quotes about the company’s culture and values. The project began in 2012 when Facebook hit 1 Billion users and is active to this day!
Barry was known to be highly brand focused and even called the “propaganda minister” internally by his co-workers.
Although the concept was introduced initially by the founder of the Chinese Communist Party, Mao Zedong, a propaganda book containing quotes and writing by the man himself, it seems that a slightly modified version serves as a very useful tool for those new at the company.
Older employees have great context about what Facebook stands for, context that to some degree is lacking when it comes to newer additions. All this info had to be reshared with everyone joining, so a small guide like this makes the transition a lot easier.
