6. Doing drugs as a way to cope
Whether it is true or false, it does make sense that the meaning behind that XO imprint has something to do with drugs. The Weeknd admitted that during some stages of his life, he depended on drugs to cope with his problems.
In fact, he started getting acquainted with drugs when he was just 11 years old. Back then, he was just smoking marijuana before moving on to other drugs with more severe effects. His addiction was pretty bad, considering he was broke and even homeless in some stage. He had to steal and shoplift to get more drugs he needed.
As music came into his life, he eventually got sober. But during the early stage of his career, he used to drink alcohol to cope with his anxiety before going out to perform.
From a guy living the street life, and trying out various kinds of drugs like Xanax, cocaine, ketamine, psilocybin, and MDMA, The Weeknd claims that he is completely sober now.
