Because he was in the Navy for a brief time, he started to collect guns. If you follow his Instagram account you see that he is constantly posting pictures of his new acquisitions.
We like to think that he needs something to spend money on, and what is better than guns?
They are like his toys, he is always happy when he buys himself a new powerful gun.
If the zombie apocalypse will come, I think Dan should not have a problem defending himself with all the guns lying around.
