Bachtiar Karim’s grandfather founded Nam Cheong, a soap factory in Medan, Indonesia. He and his brother developed the company into a larger scale in palm oil business since 1981. The company, now known as Musim Mas, is the largest palm oil player in Indonesia. The name Musim Mas was a literal translation to his mother’s birth name.
