Born on 28 September 1934, Brigitte Bardot is a French former actress, fashion model, singer, and an animal rights activist.
She was widely referred to simply by her initials, and was one of the best known sex symbols of the 1950s and 1960s,
Bardot started her acting career in 1952 and, after appearing in 16 routine comedy films, and became world-famous with the controversial film And God Created Woman in which she starred in 1957.
She was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Foreign Actress for her role in Louis Malle’s film “Viva Maria!”, and caught the attention of French intellectuals.
Simone de Beauvoir, described Brigitte Bardot in “The Lolita Syndrome” essay as a “locomotive of women’s history”.
Bardot even became the official face of Marianne (the national symbol of the French Republic) to represent the liberty of France.
