6.Underwater Sculpture Park, Cancun, Mexico
Have you ever seen an underwater sculpture park?
If not, it’s the time to visit the Underwater Sculpture Park, in Cancun, Mexico.
Created by Jason deCaires Taylor, the park has artificial reefs made of sculptures. The purpose of the park, is, besides being artistic, to help the natural reefs grow better, and reduce the pressure of their non-existence.
The marine pollution and overfishing have damaged the nature of the living species, so the sculptural forest allows the reefs to regrow naturally.
This beautiful and unique vacation destination features mostly human sculptures, and even though it might seem quite strange at first, is for sure a must see destination.
“A lot of my work is about changing the context of things, I find we are able to gain a different view point on life as a whole when we move something out of its familiar environment, possibly enabling us to have more empathy towards others and step back and see the absurd ways we go about life… The aim of this project is to portray how time, circumstance and surroundings are inscribed in the physical body.”
