sold to QuinStreet for $16 million in 2009. Insurance  is one of the most profitable industries online when it comes to advertising so it’s no wonder the domain sold for that much.

2. Sex.com

sold for $12-$14 million in 2006. The site was originally purchased by Gary Kremen the man behind Match.com. It is said that back in the day the website used to get around 25 million hits per day and once filled with advertising it generated over $500,000 per month. It was considered World’s Most Expensive Domain Name up until 2009 when Insure.com was sold for $16 million


3. Fund.com

 sold for $9.99 million in 2008 to Eastern Services Group, a company in the tax industry related to casinos. It was later discovered that the company was involved in a $53 million ponzi scheme and when the company closed they lost everything.


4. Porn.com

 sold for $9.5 million in 2007 to MXN Limited.


5. Business.com 

sold for $7.5 million in 1999. What started out as a start-up idea for Business 2 Business interaction was later sold 8 years later to R.H. Donnelley that developed the website to compete with YellowPages and SuperPages. 


6. Diamond.com

 sold to Ice.com for $7.5 million in 2006. 


7. Beer.com

 sold for $7 million in 2004. Andrew Miller and Michael Zapolin bought the domain for $80,000 back in 1998 and later on flipped it for over $7 million.


8. Israel.com

 sold for $5.88 million in 2004. The buyer remained anonymous but the seller became an overnight celebrity, the 46 year old Joel Noel Friedman picked up the domain name in 1996 without realizing what a treasure he’s holding.


9. Casino.com

sold for $5.5 million in 2007 to Mansion Limited of Gibraltar.


10. Toys.com

sold to Toys ‘R Us for $5.1 million in 2009.
