In 2013 the World’s Richest Woman is Liliane Bettencourt with an estimated net worth of US $30 billion.


Her name was Liliane Henriette Charlotte Schueller but she changed after marriage to Bettencourt. She was born in Paris, France on 21 October 1922, is a heiress, businesswoman and philanthropist. She is one of the principal shareholders of L’Oréal and, as of March 2013 she was listed as the wealthiest woman in the world. L’Oréal, one of the world’s largest cosmetics and beauty companies was founded by Liliane’s father, Eugène Schueller and she took the company when he died in 1957. Liliane entered on the top 10 of the World’s Richest Women in 1999.

Because she is such a successful woman, she got many “enemies”, and despite all the bad publicity, media ignored many aspects of her life as that she hasn’t gain her fame from scandals but from hard work, determination and discipline. Even she is very old, everyday, Liliane takes long walks too keep fit. All her life she maintained a rigorous routine which includes: swimming, walking and cycling. She is also a generous philanthropist and promotes science research by scholarship through her trusts for which she was also awarded “La Légion d’honneur”, the highest civilian decoration of France.

She also made headlines recently by being one of the most high profile victims of famous embezzler and financial Ponzi scheme perpetrator Bernie Madoff, with whom she had invested €22 million.
