The 10 Best Cars of The 1960s

4. Shelby Cobra

The Shelby Cobra  is an American-engined British sports car produced intermittently since 1962.

The engine used on the car was a pre-World War II design of BMW which by the 1960s was considered dated.

The first 75 Cobra Mark I models were fitted with the 4.3 L engine, while the  remaining 51 Mark I model were fitted with a larger version of the Windsor Ford engine, 4.7 L V8.

But in 1962, AC’s chief engineer completed a major design change of the car’s front end to accommodate rack and pinion steering while still using transverse leaf spring suspension.

The new car, the Mark II entered production in early 1963, and about 528 Mark II units were produced to the summer of 1965.
