Being a writer can be quite a difficult job to have, and writing a book is only half the battle. Getting a great publisher to take a chance and publish your work can be very tough, but writers do stand a chance.

With e-books getting more popular, a lot of writers decide to self publish their books and wait for success to happen. And in some cases, it does.

This is exactly what the next 10 authors did, and it seems like they had a huge success.

Let’s see the 10 biggest authors who started out as self published authors.

1.David Chilton – The Wealthy Barber

We start the self published best sellers with David Chilton‘s The Wealthy Barber.

The Wealthy Barber is a financial planning book franchise published in 1989, out of Chilton’s basement.

One of Canada’s best selling books of all time, the book is aimed at people with little investment experience. The Wealthy Barber is structured around the story of 3 young people in their late 20s looking for lessons in financial planning.

David Chilton was studying B.A in Economics when he decided to write the easy to read book which sold over 2 million copies. In 2008, he wrote a sequel, named The Wealthy Barber Returns, and he is now one of the dragons on CBC’s Dragon’s Den.

The basis of the book is to:

save 10 per cent of all that you earn and invest it for long-term growth.
