What the hell happened in 2016?

1. People We Lost in 2016

2016 left us with grief as it took lives one out of time. Throughout the entire year, we received bad news of losing our beloved public figures. We may not know them in person, but they have been in some of our lives. They existed in our stories through their creations, talents, and presences.

On January 10th, we lost a music icon, David Bowie. He had been battling cancer for over a year when his body finally gave up. Then, just four days apart, cancer won again by taking Alan Rickman, our own Professor Snape.

Little did we know that those two losses were only just the beginning. On June 3rd, we lost the greatest boxing legend, Muhammad Ali. And then dozens other after. And as we approached the end of 2016, we thought it would all be over. Until on December 27th, we heard about Carrie Fisher, the legendary Princess Leia of Star Wars. Grieving for her, her mother and also a legendary actress, Debbie Reynold died just one day apart.

There are no words left to describe the grief. So, let’s just take a moment to remember those we have lost in 2016. And here are some of them:

Harper Lee, the author of “To Kill a Mockingbird”, February 10th.

Prince, music icon, April 21st.

Anton Yelchin, actor, June 19th (age only 27).

Leonard Cohen, singer-songwriter, November 7th.

Fidel Castro, former President of Cuba, November 25th.

John Glenn, US National Hero, December 8th.

Zsa Zsa Gabor, actress and socialite, December 18th.

George Michael, singer-songwriter, December 25th.
