How we ranked them
We weigh historic setting, service level and location first, then design and facilities. We checked hotel sites and listings where we could and say so when we could not. Rates change by season, so we quote prices only where we saw them.
1. Four Seasons Hotel Firenze
Still our number one. The Four Seasons occupies two restored 15th-century buildings, Palazzo della Gherardesca and the former Conventino, with 116 rooms and suites and a private park. Its restaurant Il Palagio holds a Michelin star.
Reported rates vary widely by source and season, from roughly €1,000 to well over $1,800 a night, so check live prices for your dates.
2. The St. Regis Florence
A grand palazzo on the Arno with frescoed rooms, chandeliers and 24 hour butler service. It remains the city’s classic address for old-world service.
The same investor bought it together with the Westin Excelsior next door, and Marriott kept operating both under their brand names.
3. Portrait Firenze
An all-suite hotel from the Lungarno Collection that put contemporary design and river views next to the Ponte Vecchio. It earns third place for a distinctly un-hotel feel.
We could not retrieve its official page this session, so confirm the current suite count and rates with the hotel.
4. Hotel Savoy, a Rocco Forte hotel
Part of the Rocco Forte collection since 1997 and ideally placed on Piazza della Repubblica, a short walk from the Duomo. Choose it if you want to be in the center who want to be in the center and walk everywhere.
Check the hotel for current room counts and rates.
5. The Westin Excelsior Florence
A 171 room riverside palace that listings show as renovated most recently in 2025. It offers meeting space and a classic Florentine setting.
Scale and location are its strengths rather than boutique intimacy, hence the mid-table rank.
6. Villa Il Salviatino
A 14th-century villa in the hills with city views, gardens and a Renaissance interior. Pick it for a retreat above the city rather than a stay in the crowded center.
The villa has changed its web address to salviatino.com. We did not verify the suite count, so check current numbers.
7. J.K. Place Firenze
A small townhouse hotel that feels like a private home, with fireplaces and a personal concierge approach. A long-time favorite with design-minded travelers.
We could not open its official page, so verify the current room count and rates.
8. Grand Hotel Villa Medici
An 18th-century palazzo with a garden and classical interiors. Room counts and rates were not re-verified this session, so check the hotel directly.
9. Palazzo Vecchietti
A small residence-style hotel between Palazzo Strozzi and Piazza della Repubblica, about 200 meters from Via de’ Tornabuoni. The hotel’s site lists Deluxe rooms, Suites and the Premier Suite named for Leonardo da Vinci.
Intimate, central and shopping-friendly. Rates are on its booking page.
10. Riva Lofts
A loft-style property on the left bank of the Arno, a short distance from the center, with an on-site restaurant (RIVA-K, open Wednesday to Sunday). This is the most contemporary choice on our list.
Being further out than the others, it suits guests who like design and a quieter neighborhood over walking distance to the Duomo.
