Best Wine Destinations in the World

8Walla Walla, Washington

Walla Walla is the largest city in Walla Walla County, Washington.

One of the world’s best wine destinations, Walla Walla has dozens of vineyards, more than 120 wineries and several of them have received top scores from ‘Wine Spectator‘, ‘The Wine Advocate’ and ‘Wine and Spirits’.

‘Walla Walla’, meaning ‘many waters’, has often been called ‘the next Napa Valley’.

Its reputation for producing one of the best wines in the world took root in 1977, when Leonetti Cellar was founded, followed by Woodward Canyon (1981) and L’Ecole (1983).

Among other popular wineres in Walla Walla are included Bunchgrass Winery, Canoe Ridge Vineyard, Caprio Cellars and Foundry Vineyards.

While you’re in Walla Walla, you’ll need a place to stay. And that place is right in the heart of downtown.
Built in 1928, Marcus Whitman Hotel features an award-winning restaurant with a nice bar (let’s stick to the subject ‘wine’).

Depending on the time of the year that you’re visiting Walla Walla, there are several wine-tasting events, such as ‘Hot Air Balloon Stampede’ (which takes place in May), ‘Wheelin’ Walla Walla Weekend’ (September) and the ‘County Fair and Rodeo’ (also September).
