Celebrities earn big and spend as big. Sometimes they don’t think about their spending as mature as they should be. This leads them to becoming broke celebrities.
Sometimes, it is not about the way they spend their money. It may be simply about the choices they make in their life. Or just series of bad luck (if you believe in it).
Regardless, they should have managed their life better. These 10 celebrities were once on top of their game. These 10 celebrities now are considered as broke celebrities.
Who are these 10 celebrities who are no longer winning in their life? Take a look at our list in no particular order.
10. Matthew Perry
If you were born in the 70s or 80s, you might have grown up watching the legendary sitcom, F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Even until today, the fans are still hoping for a reunion series of this 10 seasons long TV show.
One of the main characters was Chandler Bing. The character suffered from being a loser even among his closest friends. Does the same thing happen to the actor who played him?
Last month, Matthew was on an interview with This Morning. After his appearance there, he became a trending topic on twitter. People were sharing their concerns on Matthew’s look and the way he speaks. He was slurring his words as if he was drunk.
Prior to that, Matthew didn’t attend the F.R.I.E.N.D.S cast reunion on a tribute to director James Burrows. During his youth, Matthew struggled from his addiction. He was in rehab during the 7th season of the sitcom.
9. Brendan Fraser
Remember this pretty face from George of The Jungle? Well, he is not living a pretty live anymore. The life of the star of the Mummy Return started to fall apart since his divorce with Afton Smith.
Together they had three children, Griffin, Holden, and Leland. Since the divorce, Brendan is obligated to pay her ex-wife $900,000 a year for child support.
In 2013, he went to a court in Connecticut, asking to reduce the amount of annual child support because of his glooming career. He claimed he had no movie deals that time. Technically, he became one of the broke celebrities.
Since then however, Brendan appeared in some movies and Broadway shows. Although he is trying to get back up, his life is no longer as free as the life of George of The Jungle.
8. Lindsay Lohan
She was one of the top kid movie stars. She was so cute and adorable playing twins in The Parent Trap. Growing up was okay for Lindsay. She started her music career and maintained her appearance on the big screen. Now, she is high on addiction and low on money. Hence, one of the broke celebrities.
Everything went down in 2007 when she was first arrested for DUI (Driving Under the Influence). Then she went in and out of rehab under probation. But two months later, she violated her probation period when she was caught again with the same problem and this time with a felony cocaine possession.
This pattern seems to reoccur in her life. She was arrested multiple more times and she has been struggling with her addiction. She failed a random drug test and had to go through another trial because of it.
Her appearance is another proof of her degrading life. She is only 29 years old now but she had gone through plastic surgery. You can see her fuller lips and thinner cheeks as a result of injections. However, some say it is just because of her dependency on drugs and alcohol. Really?
7. Macaulay Culkin
The mischievous little boy from Home Alone seems to be stuck in Christmas. In real life, the actor, Macaulay Culkin was never the super happy kid. His issues with his parents (who later divorced and fought for his custody over money) might have been his first major problem.
Macaulay, now 35, was almost overdosed by painkiller and heroin in 2013. It was not the first time he was caught with the illegal possessions. He has been struggling with his addiction to heroin.
In 2004, he was arrested for the possession of marijuana, Alprazolam, and Clonazepam. He was jailed briefly and released on a bail.
As if those weren’t bad enough, Macaulay was involved in Michael Jackson’s trials following up the allegation of sexual abuse towards children. Macaulay, who had been close with MJ since Home Alone, defended the pop star.
6. Gary Busey
The next story is a compilation of pity and sorry. Gary Busey has been an actor since 1968. Since then, he starred in many classic blockbuster movies, such as Point Break, The Firm, Under Siege, and Lethal Weapon. He was even nominated for Oscars in 1978.
He is still active in acting. But his career has never been as good as it was. People don’t really know him anymore. Even on a live E! coverage of Oscars 2008, he interrupted Ryan Seacrest interview with Jennifer Garner. He was so annoying and he made Ben Affleck’s future ex-wife very uncomfortable.
He did apologize via e-mail sent to the media by his attorney’s publicist. He said he didn’t mean to make her uncomfortable and that he was going to step back but the E! host introduced him to her. Hmmm… blaming it on Seacrest is an apology?
His strange behavior may be caused by his accident in 1988. He was severely injured from a motorcycle accident. His skull was fractured and doctors thought he might suffer from permanent brain damage. Well, he was not wearing any helmet though.
5. Charlie Sheen
Charlie Sheen has not only one problem. He has been all over the news for various reasons. One of the biggest news was when he came clean about the fact that he is an HIV positive on a talk show.
The reactions towards that were even bigger news. His porn star ex-girlfriend, Bree Olson, said that he was not honest about his HIV when they were sexually involved. Charlie defended himself by saying he was not yet diagnosed.
Charlie was also struggling with drugs addiction, especially cocaine. His addiction was the reason why he was killed off on the TV show he was starring, Two and a Half Men. He was furious about it. He even threatened the show’s producer, Chuck Lorre.
Charlie also suffered from financial problems. In 2013, there was an allegation in which he spent more than a million dollar on prostitutes. He had to sell two of his mansions to recover financially. He does deserve a spot in our broke celebrities list.
4. Toni Braxton
Toni Braxton’s legendary hit Unbreak My Heart is one of the most popular heartbreak anthems. Today, she might have changed the lyric into Unbroke My Money. Toni went bankrupt not just once, but twice. The first one was in 1998 and the second one in 2010.
For the first bankruptcy, she sort of blamed it on her record label. During her shining career in the 90s, she generated millions of dollar. Ironically, she only took home a couple of thousands.
The second bankruptcy happened after she had to cancel her show in Vegas, which she financed herself. She was diagnosed with lupus, a long-term autoimmune disorder. Since then, she could never perform anymore. Only one or two songs occasionally, as the doctors suggested.
To recover from her $4 million debt, she had to auction her songs’ copyright. She was planning to buy them all back once she earned more money, but that never happened. This definitely made her one of the broke celebrities.
3. Mike Tyson
The boxing legend is up next on our broke celebrities list. Tyson may have won a lot of fights for a lot of titles, but he is just not winning anymore in his life. It all started when he was arrested for sexual abuse allegation in 1992.
During his serving time, he had many conjugal visits from different female visitors. Including his prison drug counselor. He paid her $10,000 though.
Tyson made millions from his boxing career. Back then, it was around $300 million or more than $500 million today after inflation conversion. But, he went so broke that he couldn’t even pay off his IRS debts.
On a personal side, Tyson is not looking fit anymore. He is not maintaining his healthy lifestyle either. He is drinking and smoking. He once lied to his second wife, Monica Turner, that he had AIDS. These are just a few of many problems he had in his life.
2. Wesley Snipes
Remember that cool dude who slays bad vampires in Blade? Yup, that is the same man you are looking at the picture. Well, Mr. Cool ain’t so cool anymore today.
He filed for bankruptcy in 2006. It was followed up by him being arrested for tax fraud. He failed to pay over $15 million in taxes for his earnings in 1999-2001. He served three years in Pennsylvania prison for that.
As he was sentenced under home confinement, Wesley Snipes was then under the watchful eye of the New York Community Corrections Office as you can see on the website of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
However, his lawyers argued that his tax advisers, Douglas P. Rosile and Eddie Ray Kahn, who were also jailed, had duped their client with a claim that there were no laws requiring him to pay tax. Um, wasn’t Google available that time?
1. Pamela Anderson
Pamela Anderson is popularly known for her role in Baywatch. Or at least for her famous run along the beach wearing red bikini.
Despite her efforts in denying the rumors of her being one of the broke celebrities, she had to sell her house in Malibu for $7 million in 2013. She needed the pay the money she owed IRS for her overdue taxes. The house was not even finished yet. She then lived in a trailer park with her boyfriend.
Well, to be fair, she was living a diva life that she could not afford. Relying on exposing her sexy body, it is hard to compete with other talented actresses to keep the money coming.
