12. Where does Mexico’s richest live?
You would think that the richest man in Mexico would build his own castle on his homeland and live large in it. But Carlos Slim Helu does not. The mansion you see on the picture above is located in New York. And it appears that he bought it for investment purpose.
That mansion is called the Duke Semans mansion. It is a beaux arts Manhattan townhouse with 25 rooms. As you can tell from its design, it comes from different era. It was built in 1901. However, Carlos sold the house two years ago. It was listed for a $80 million sales.
So, where does Carlos actually live?
When it comes to accommodation, Carlos is far from splurging, considering how rich he is. He is living in a modest 6-bedroom house in Mexico. And he has been living in this house for the past 40 years.
Sometimes, neighbors would see him drive his Navy Mercedes 4×4 or his Bentley Continental Flying Spur. See? Even his choice of cars is pretty modest (for a billionaire).
