3. Palm Island, Dubai ($14 billion)
The Palm Islands are artificial islands built in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. With all of its commercial and residential infrastructures, it became the third most expensive man made attraction in the world.
The archipelago consists of three islands. They are Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali, and Deira Island. Together, they form a shape of a palm tree.
The construction started in 2001 and finished just two years ago. To build this over 500-km spanned islands, there were around 310 million cubic meters of rock, sand, and limestone used. They were taken from Dubai’s mainland. The whole process, including reclamation and developing, cost around $14 billion.
This amazing project has become a playground to the rich and famous. It is also the home to amazing buildings and real estates, such as the world’s most expensive hotels and most expensive houses.
