947 Ronin – $175 million
We continue our top list with the Japanese-American fantashy action film, ’47 Ronin’.
Starring Keanu Reeves and Hiroyuki Sanada, ’47 Ronin’ was released in 2013 and grossed $150 million worldwide.
Director Carl Rinsch wanted Keanu Reeves’ character to be the main focus of the film, so he filmed a number of extra scenes, that came with a cost of nearly $50 million in extra spending.
Story line: ‘A band of samurai set out to avenge the death and dishonor of their master at the hands of a ruthless shogun.’
