6. Has 2 times the downforce of a Formula 1 car.
Downforce and aerodynamic work side by side in a car to create the best performance under exhilarating speeds. While aerodynamic works as a system, downforce is the product. Without downforce, drivers will lose control of their car, or worse: send the car flipping, especially on high speed corners.
Downforce keeps your car stick to the ground as it travels fast. The faster the car, the bigger downward thrust it needs. And that is why sports cars and race cars are built as low as possible.
The aerodynamic forces of a Formula 1 car can produce as much as three times the car’s weight in downforce. And at just 130 kph, the downforce is equal in magnitude to the weight of the car.
Because NIO EP9 is taller than a Formula 1 car, it needs bigger downforce to go as fast. Thus, NextEV NIO designed an active rear wing system and full-length floor diffuser to achieve twice the downforce of a Formula 1 car. The rear wing has three positions mode: parking, low dragging, and high downforce.
