9Timbuktu, Mali – 104 degrees Fahrenheit
We continue our top list with Timbuktu, the capital of the Timbuktu Region, with a population of 54.453.
Formerly spelled Timbuctoo and Timbuktoo, Timbuktu is located in the West African nation of Mali, 20 km north of the River Niger, Sahara Desert.
It has a weather that is hot and dry throughout much of the year and the highest recorded temperature here was 104 degrees Fahrenheit (the equivalent of 40 degrees Celsius), in the hottest months of the year (April, May and June).
The lowest recorded temperature is 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius), during December, January and February. However, these ‘winter’ months feature a dry, dusty, trade wind.
40 degrees Celsius can be more than some people can manage, but the good news is that the cooling waters of the Niger River are 15 miles away.
