Earmuffs
The constant problem of freezing ears gave us the earmuffs an invention created by Chester Greenwood, who lived in Farmington, Maine.
While he was struggling with frozen ears and the fact that wrapping a scarf around his head was uncomfortable, the young kid was thinking to do something about it.
So he told his grandmother to saw some fur into a structure made from two wire loops and there was the earmuff born.
He perfected his model with a steel band to the device and started to sell them under the name of Greenwood’s Champion Ear Protectors, which were a hit in the American army in World War One.
His home town became the capital of the earmuffs and his birthday was transformed into an every year parade to celebrate the man who discovered the earmuffs.
