Why follow a hotel brand for travel ideas?
We all love to travel, but we often need a push to decide where. You carry your phone almost everywhere, and Instagram is probably already on it. A luxury hotel brand’s account is a free way to scroll through suites, views and experiences in the most beautiful places in the world and pick your next destination.
It also works the other way. If you simply want a few minutes of virtual luxury between meetings, the account serves that too. Our earlier version of this article embedded a set of St. Regis posts from 2015; Instagram posts change constantly, so we send you to the live account instead.
What is the St. Regis story?
John Jacob Astor built the St. Regis New York in 1904 as a sister property to the Waldorf-Astoria, with a telephone in every room, a luxury at the time. Sheraton bought the hotel in 1966, and after a restoration in 1991 it became the flagship of the ITT Sheraton Luxury Collection.
Starwood acquired Sheraton in 1997 and launched the St. Regis brand in 1998 by rebranding a former Ritz-Carlton in Aspen. Marriott took over the chain in September 2016 with its acquisition of Starwood. If you like the family story behind the brand, read our piece on the St. Regis family traditions.
What opens or returns in 2026?

- The St. Regis Dubai, The Palm: announced a return on 1 November 2026, including a reimagined St. Regis Bar.
- St. Regis London: a conversion of the Westbury Mayfair with 193 keys, 66 of them suites, and a brasserie called Le Perroquet by chef Daniel Rose. It is bookable from 1 December 2026 after years of delay.
Check dates before you book, since openings often move.
