5. Millions of Dollar Worth of Endorsement
While pay-per-view brings a lot of cash to the promoters, endorsements are solely (or mostly) for the athletes. During his prime, Mayweather lured a lot of endorsements from a lot of world-leading brands.
Brands like FanDuel, Burger King, and Hublot paid $1 million each just to sponsor Mayweather. And his Reebok boxing shoes was one of the top shoes worn by world-class athletes. That shoe company was one of his biggest endorsements. But unfortunately, the collaboration was ended not in a good way.
One day, Mayweather went into Nike’s store and spent thousands of dollars. How did Reebok find out? Well, he posted it on Instagram. And this is one of the reasons why he does not have big endorsements like other world-class athletes do.
What you do outside the fighting ring is also important when it comes to endorsement. Mayweather doesn’t seem to care since he was making a truckload of money from fighting only. So, this round, the pendulum swings McGregor’s way. He is currently endorsed by Reebok, Monster Energy, EA Sport, and several other companies for $4 million in total.
