Most Beautiful Cemeteries in the World

6Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, New York

Founded in 1838 as a rural cemetery in Kings County, New York, Green-Wood Cemetery is now one of the most stunning cemeteries in the world.
In 2006, it became a National Historic Landmark.

Located in Greenwood Heights, Brooklyn, the cemetery was a popular tourist attraction in the 1850, featuring almost 600.000 graves, spread out over 478 acres.

Its gates were designed in Gothic Revival style, by Richard Upjohn.
The main entrance, the one you can see in the first photo, was built in 1861 out of Belleville brownstone, featuring sculptured groups depicting biblical scenes (Lazarus, Jesus’ Ressurection and The Widow’s Son).

The Green-Wood Cemetery is the 2nd most visited tourist attraction in the US, and it’s understandable.
Those impressive monuments, those breathtaking rolling hills, those beautiful trees.
