Most Expensive Academy Awards Dresses In History

N5. Audrey Hepburn, 1954 — auctioned for $131,292

For the next apparition we go back to the 1954 when Audrey Hepburn wore an amazing gown the day she won an Oscar for her role in the movie Roman Holiday.

She decided to wear as a gown for the red carpet a customized version of the final dress she wore in the film.

We don’t know how much the dress cost but it was auctioned in 2011 for just over a $131,292.

Designed by Edith Head, who was Hepburn’s primary designer before Givenchy, the dress was changed for the Academy Awards by cutting the bodice of the dress straight across at the front, and including back and thin spaghetti straps.
NEXT: #4. Elizabeth Taylor
