7. Tarzan: $16 Million
Another Disney production managed to climb into the top of most expensive Broadway musicals.
Based on the 1999 animated film, Tarzan was written by pop star and composer Phil Collins who also wrote the animation.
Before the Tarzan musical, Phil Collins had three successful musicals, so Disney said they will hit big with this one.
But they forgot that the public is an unknown force and failed miserably. It was opened in March 2006, the show closed less than two years later to lukewarm reviews.
