And we are on the podium with Lion King as number three most expensive Broadway musical. Another Disney product, Lion King first opened in 1997, and it had a budget now estimated at $27.5 million.
With the money they did an elaborate set, made some great costumes and had fantastic musical score.
When it was first showed, the Lion King was the highest grossing Broadway musical of all time, even top the longest running show- The Phantom of the Opera.
It has reaped in a whopping $1 billion dollars and will probably bring in more as it continues its Broadway run for the seventeenth year straight.
