Most Expensive Cheese in the World
Do you like cheese? I am sure you’ll like the Most Expensive Cheese in the World.
I was watching an old episode of Elementary the other day, when Sherlock Holmes have me the idea for my next article. That’s how I ended up researching about the priciest cheese.
In the episode, he was talking about a rare and special cheese which is found rarely, and then I realized, that’s exactly what I needed.
After some research I knew exactly what he was talking about. We know that every country makes their own weird cheese, some with gold in it, some stinky and moldy, but don’t need to be an expert to appreciate the good taste when your taste buds sense one.
I choose to talk about one particular type of cheese: The Donkey Cheese, because my dear readers this is the Most Expensive Cheese in the World. Why?
Most luxury things have gold in them, of course but not this one since it comes from donkeys; rare donkeys.
Not all of us like stinky cheese, but they say that is the best one, same goes for the Ass Donkey Cheese.
The Zasavica Special Nature Reserve along the Zasavica River produces form 100 Balkan donkeys, a smoked donkey’s milk chesse called “Pule”. You’ll say that’s outrageous to pay $1,000/pound for a piece.
But the producers say the price is proportional with the amount of milk they use, about 25 liters of milk for 1 kilogram/pound of cheese.
And they also took the donkey milk into other area- the cosmetic area. The Zasavica staff started experimenting at first but now they are manufacturing cosmetic creams, soaps and a type of liqueur– all made from donkey milk.
Its expensively is due its rarity cause there are only about 100 Jennies in the landrace of Serbia, only they can give the milk for the cheese. They are hand-milked thrice daily; some say the cheese is stinky but white and crumbly.
“Nobody was willing to make it, because it contains low levels of milk fat, but we wanted to have a rare product and attract people to first come to the nature, and then try products made from (the milk) of ancient breeds” said Simi? – the manager.
Goes well with wine on some cold winter night in front of your TV, in the comfort of your own home.
Or you can travel to Serbia and have one bite of this expensive cheese and let me know if it deserves the title of the Most Expensive Cheese in the World.
