Number 4. Taiyo-No-Tamago Mangoes -$3,662

At the whopping price of 3 thousand dollars, these mangos are priced for a box of two pieces.

To earn the special distinction, the individual fruits must weigh at least 12 ounces and be high in sugar.

This April, a pair of mangoes sold for 300,000 yen ($3,662). The mangoes were sold under the Taiyo no Tamago label, which translates as “Egg of the Sun”.

The mangoes are famous for its rigorous criteria, including a minimum weight and high sugar content.

The “first” tray of mangoes for the 2013 season was sold this morning at the Sydney Markets for $30,000.

The tray of fresh Northern Territory mangoes was bought by Heath McInerney, from Fresh Fellas Pty Ltd, on behalf of over 100 independent greengrocers and 55 wholesalers at the Sydney Markets.
