2 Wallace Hartley’s violin -$1.7 million

This violin belonged to the band leader Wallace Hartley. It was discovered in a leather case attached to his body.

Hartley began to play with his band mates, their last song as the ship was going down.

However, the last song they played remains unknown, but there are legends and witness that say it was the hymn “Nearer My God to Thee”.

When they found the violin they returned to Hartley’s fiancée, Maria Robinson.

After she died, the violin ended up in a Salvation Army church and then passed to its consignor. It hit $1.7 million when it was sold at Henry Aldridge in October 2013.
