The most expensive men’s garment on record is the Stuart Hughes and Richard Jewels Diamond Edition suit, valued at about $892,500 and set with 480 diamonds, though no copy has ever been publicly sold. Among pieces that have actually changed hands, the top prices go to celebrity wardrobe at auction and to one-off bespoke suits. This list ranks the ten priciest men’s garments we could verify as of October 2026, and separates what has sold from what is only priced.

1. Stuart Hughes Diamond Edition suit: about $892,500

Richard Jewels of Manchester cut it in cashmere, wool and silk, and Stuart Hughes set 480 diamonds, roughly 240 carats, into it over several hundred hours of work. Three were made. We treat the figure as a valuation rather than a sale, because none has been sold at public auction.

It leads on the strength of the quoted valuation alone, so read it as an asking-level number, not a clearing price.

2. John Travolta’s Saturday Night Fever suit: about $260,000

It was an off-the-rack polyester three-piece in white, chosen by the film’s costume team for a working-class character, not for luxury. It has been reported at around $260,000 at a Sotheby’s sale. The fabric is cheap, the fame is not.

We rank it second on a single reported figure and have not confirmed the sale date, so the price is hedged.

3. John Lennon’s Abbey Road suit: about $120,000

The off-white two-piece Lennon wore for the Abbey Road cover was designed by Ted Lapidus in 1969 and reportedly sold at auction in 2005 for about $120,000. You are paying for a walk across a zebra crossing.

The ranking leans on one reported auction result from 2005, which we could not cross-check, so the figure carries a margin.

4. Alexander Amosu Vanquish II suit: about $113,000

This bespoke suit took the Guinness record for the most valuable suit ever made. It is woven from gold thread, Himalayan pashmina, qiviuk and vicuña, with nine 18-carat gold and diamond buttons, and took 80 hours and more than 5,000 stitches. A private buyer paid GBP 70,000 for it.

The dollar figure is our conversion of the sterling price, so it is approximate.

5. The striped zoot suit: about $78,000

A well-preserved 1930s to 1940s-style wool zoot suit, with the padded shoulders and wide-leg trousers, reportedly sold at auction in 2011 after fierce bidding between collectors.

It sits here on a single reported auction price from 2011, which we hedge accordingly.

6. Kiton K-50: about $50,000 to $100,000

Kiton’s top bespoke line takes around 50 hours of hand stitching, and the house makes roughly 50 a year. It is the most expensive suit you can actually walk into a Neapolitan tailor and order. A vicuña and silk option exists, and the cloth is said to weigh less than two silk scarves.

We use the range the maker’s retail pricing implies, and rank it by the middle of that range.

7. Bijan: up to $50,000

Bijan’s Rodeo Drive shop is appointment-only. A suit usually starts near $25,000 and runs up to about $50,000 on a special order, with no diamonds or gold thread, just the cut and the exclusivity.

This is a published price band rather than a sale, so we cite the top of it.

8. Brioni Vanquish II: about $43,000

A limited run of 100 suits in Dormeuil’s Vanquish II cloth, a blend of qiviut, vicuña and pashmina with white gold thread. Brioni says each suit passes through about 220 pairs of hands. The cloth alone is listed around GBP 3,000 a metre.

The price is a retail listing, so it is the cleanest figure on the list to check.

9. Loro Piana World Wool Record Challenge Cup suit: about $28,000

Loro Piana makes a few dozen suits each year from the wool that wins its annual contest for the finest bales, with fibres as thin as 10.2 microns. The reported price is about $28,000.

We rank it on a reported retail number and could not confirm it directly with the maker.

10. Alexander Amosu’s bespoke shirt: up to GBP 25,000

When Amosu unveiled it in July 2009, prices began at GBP 400 and climbed to GBP 25,000. The shirts had silver buttons, which could be swapped for diamond-encrusted buttons, gold or platinum.

The top price is from the 2009 launch, so today’s cost may differ.

What changed since our old list

The previous version of this article was a head-to-toe wardrobe: underwear, wallet, shoes, perfume, tie, cufflinks and a watch, totalling an invented figure. We dropped it. The prices were from the early 2010s, several could no longer be confirmed, and the items were accessories, not clothing. This version ranks garments only. We found no new men’s clothing auction record for 2025 or 2026.

What a good suit costs without the diamonds

Outside the top ten, the market is more normal. Ermenegildo Zegna ready-to-wear sits around $3,000 to $4,000, and its couture line runs to roughly $20,000. Tom Ford is about $5,000 to $7,000. Brioni ready-to-wear starts near $6,000. On Savile Row, Henry Poole starts at about GBP 6,500, Anderson & Sheppard at about GBP 4,778 and Huntsman at about GBP 4,600, and a bespoke suit there takes roughly 60 to 80 hours of work over about 12 weeks.

What drives these prices

  • Cloth rarity. Vicuña costs about $1,800 to $3,000 a yard before anyone cuts it.
  • Hours. Hand stitching of 50 to 80 hours or more separates bespoke from the rack.
  • Fame. Travolta and Lennon prove a cheap suit can outsell a diamond one once a star wears it.
  • Valuation versus sale. The most extreme prices are quotes. Real auction results are lower.
