Designed to replace the P-3C Orion, the Boeing P-8A Poseidon is a military aircraft developed for the U.S. Navy. It conducts anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare.
With a length of 129.5 feet (39.47 meters) and a height of 42.1 feet (12.83 meters), the P-8A can carry torpedoes, SLAM-ER missiles, Harpoon anti-ship missiles, depth charges and other weapons.
The Boeing P-8 Poseidon, formerly the Multimission Maritime Aircraft or MMA, took its first flight on April 25, 2009.
It is a militarized version of the Boeing 737-800 with 737-900-based wings.
Also, the military plane features a 180kVA electric generator on each engine, replacing the 90kVA generator of civilian 737s.
