4.1941 Best Picture Oscar for “How Green Was My Valley” – Price:$274,520
1941 was a very competitive year for the cinematography!
The movie “How Green Was My Valley” was released in 1941 and told the story of the Morgans, a family from a Welsh mining village that were raising their coal-mining song, dreaming of a better life for their children.
As I was saying, 1941 was a very competitive year, everybody was waiting for the Oscar Awards to see who will eventually manage to take home all the prizes.
But although they competed with movies like Citizen Kane or Sergeant York, the director John Ford went home with the Best Picture Oscar for “How Green Was My Valley”.
The gold-plate statue was later auctioned for $274,520!
