5. General Motors
Commonly known as GM, is an American multinational corporation headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, that makes, designs, markets and distributes vehicles and vehicle parts.
GM produces vehicles in more than 37 countries under these brands: Alpheon, Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, Holden, HSV, Opel, Vauxhall, Wuling, Baojun, Jie Fang, UzDaewoo.
The Michigan-based company, the Detroit, was founded in 1908 by William C. Durant, Charles Stewart Mott, and Frederic L. Smith.
In April of 2014, the company came under heavy fire due to allegations that they had knowingly placed faulty ignition systems in their vehicles as far back as 1997. The cars were not recalled and are believed to have caused the deaths of at least 13 people.
