We don’t need to explain what twitter is and that is a fact! Most people agree that the moment when you brand can be used as a verb, you kinda win at whatever you’re doing. (I “googled” that)
Although Social Media’s days of being the hip discussion topic on everyone’s lips are, at least to me, behind we can not neglect the importance and the impact one can have through the use of said platforms!
So, as the year comes closer to that jolly period, we’re interested on who are the most influential twitter users this year and how large of a following these celebrities have built so far.

Ashton Kutcher happens to be one of the individuals I’ve kept an eye out for this year. He’s been highly involved in numerous commercial campaigns along the already too famous Two and Half Men show and don’t get me started on the Steve Jobs movie, all in all I’d say it was a great year for America’s favorite male celebrity!

The very soon to be miss Kanye West had a pretty active year herself: business is booming, she’s more famous than ever before, she had a baby and the relationship with Kanye has a great effect on her followers closing in to the 20 million mark.

Oprah is a legend and although – as most of the people mentioned on this list do – has a team of social media experts making sure her toughs and image are perfectly reflected in the twittersphere, she still remains one of the most influential female figure in recent history.
7. Ellen DeGeneres, @TheEllenShow: 23.8 Million Followers
Who doesn’t love Ellen?! Her popularity exceeds America, with followers from all over the world and amazing must-retweet tweets, Ellen’s profile is a must-follow!
6. Britney Spears, @britneyspears : 34.4 Million Followers
America’s once favorite sweetheart still has it and she’s in better shape than ever! Constantly involved in new projects and with close to 35 million loyal followers she’s rocking in our 6th position in this ranking!
5. Taylor Swift, @taylorswift13 : 37.1 Million Followers
From one sweetheart we turn to another! Taylor Swift is one of the icons of this generation! Closely followed by 37 million people she’s gaining up on our President!

Although there seem to be a lot of mixed feelings about the current situation of the nation, President Barack Obama is one of the most influential leaders in social media and the level of interaction with his followers is amazing!

After conquering Facebook, Lady Gaga cuts herself a huge chuck of the twittersphere! Her little monsters are one of the most loyal fans in the world and the Music/Fashion icon keeps innovating!

How come Justin Bieber is #2? I’m sure that most of you are wondering this, with the huge following and always being in the press now-a-days, the young superstar climbs his way into more fame here also! He was very close to making it on our first position but someone just beat him to it!
1. Katy Perry, @katyperry : 47.9 Million Followers
And that amazing person is: Katy Perry! She is the most influential person on twitter with a staggering following of close to 48 million followers! Being very opened to her fans and often getting involved in discussions is what puts Katy on our #1 position! We need to keep an eye out though, because the beliebers are not pleased with being second so we’ll see how this plays out in 2014!
